CAKE SALE: There will be a Cake Sale, including vetkoek and mince curry, after both Masses today. Please support this final fund raiser for the year.

HOLY WATER STOUP: Thanks to the parishioner who gave us a Holy Water stoup. It has been placed at the door in the South Transept, so all our doors now have a stoup. Signing ourselves with Holy Water on entering and leaving church reminds us of the promises made at our Baptism.

PONTIFICAL HIGH MASS: There will be a Pontifical High mass, presided over by the Bishop of False Bay, on Tuesday, the 15th December at 7:00 pm, in thanksgiving for the ministry of clergy celebrating 30, 40 and 50 years in Holy Orders. There are 14 clergy from around the Province gathering for this celebration; please join us in giving thanks at the altar of God for 477 years in Holy Orders.

PHYSIOTHERAPY: Should anybody be needing physiotherapy or massage please have a word with Emanuel Kapang, the security man at the Teletech gate on 078 680 9323. His wife is looking for work in these areas.

ORDINATION: The Advent Ordinations will take place at St George’s Cathedral on Sunday the 13th December at 2:45 pm. If you have never assisted at an Ordination Mass before, you might find that attending enlarges your appreciation of the catholic nature of the Church.

HYMNS THAT LIVE: The Rev. Dr James Patrick, a friend of the Parish and a presenter on Fine Music Radio, will present a two lecture course on Hymns as Story and Hymns as Soul. The lectures will look at selected hymns and analyse their poetic and musical forms in relation to their theological content; look at how the life stories of the great hymn writers threw light on their compositions; how hymns mirror their times in a variety of ways; how some hymns arise out of a personal religious experience while others are crafted to convey and inculcate doctrinal beliefs or express a spiritual vision; and will look at how a hymn's tune makes it memorable. Dates: 15-16 January 2010 at 15.30. Course fees: R116 for the two days. The lectures are part of the UCT Summer School and it is a pre-requisite to register on 021 650 2888. The venue will be determined by the number of people attending, so it is necessary to check beforehand at the Leslie Social Science Building, Upper Campus, Room 301.

WORK SOUGHT: Boniface, who guards the cars on Sundays, is looking for any work opportunity. If you are in a position to offer him any work, please speak to him after Mass.

DATES TO PLAN FOR:
•    22nd November – our final orchestral Mass in the Haydn Project – there is no Parish lunch after this mass.
•    29th November – Advent Carol Service at 7:00 pm. There will be a bring and share supper in the Parish Hall after this service.

MICHAELMAS: Thanks to all who made our annual thanksgiving celebration such a success. Those who gathered on the 29th shared an enjoyable supper after Mass. The Parish Lunch on Sunday brought together over 120 people, and in the process raised R6700.00. Well done to all those who assisted in preparing the lunch; particularly Jeremy and John who sat in the cold of the night watching, and tending, the pig on the spit.

SONGS OF PRAISE: Richard Cock, onetime organist of this parish,  conducts Songs of Praise on Sunday 18 October at 15:30 in the Bishops Memorial Chapel. The choirs of Herschel, St Cyprians and Bishops will be singing a wide variety of sacred music. As always there are lots opportunities for the congregation to sing as well. Tickets (R50) are available at the door. The proceeds are to be donated to charity. There is ample safe parking on the Bishops campus.

MORNING MARKET: The plant stall urgently needs donations of seedlings, herbs and plants for their stall.  If you can assist in this matter please contact Nina Bergh at 021 686 6093.
